Adi Kailash Yatra FAQ 2026

The cost starts from ₹18,000/person (3D/2N Pithoragarh package), ₹30,000/person (6D/5N Kathgodam package), and ₹35,000/person (7D/6N Delhi package). All include: ILP processing, 4x4 Bolero transport, Rung tribal homestay, vegetarian meals, pulse oximeter, and emergency oxygen cylinder.

Included: ILP processing at SDM Dharchula, 4x4 Mahindra Bolero transport throughout, Rung/Bhotiya tribal homestay accommodation, all vegetarian satvik meals, pulse-oximeter monitoring, portable oxygen cylinders, local expert guide, road tolls and border checkpost fees. Not included: Personal travel insurance, flight/train to starting point, tips, personal purchases.

UPI (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm), Bank Transfer (NEFT/IMPS), Credit/Debit Card via Razorpay, and Cash at our Pithoragarh office. A 30% advance is required at booking. Balance payable on departure day. GST invoice provided for all payments.

Rudraansh Yatra processes your ILP at the SDM Office Dharchula and DM Office Pithoragarh — no personal visit required. Documents: (1) Aadhaar card copy, (2) Police Verification Certificate (PCC) or Passport, (3) Doctor-certified physical fitness certificate, (4) 2 passport-sized photographs. Share via WhatsApp. Processing: 2-3 working days. ILP cost included in all packages.

The ILP for Vyas Valley is issued by the SDM Office, Dharchula and countersigned by the District Magistrate, Pithoragarh. Rudraansh Yatra handles the entire process from our Pithoragarh office. Travellers from Kathgodam or Delhi do not need to visit any government office — ILP is handed to you at the Tawaghat checkpost.

Foreign nationals and OCI cardholders require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. This requires additional time (7-14 days). NRI Indian citizens with valid Indian passports follow the same ILP process as domestic travellers. Contact us with your travel document details for exact requirements.

The SDM Dharchula may limit daily permits (typically 50-100/day) during peak season. As a registered local operator with priority access and direct relations at the SDM office, Rudraansh Yatra guests have never been denied ILPs due to capacity. Weather closures result in full reschedule at no extra cost.

Day 1: Pithoragarh to Dharchula (95 km, ~3.5 hrs). Overnight: Dharchula (915m).
Day 2: Dharchula to Gunji to Nabidhang Om Parvat Darshan and return to Gunji. 110 km. Overnight: Gunji (3,200m).
Day 3: Gunji to Jyolingkong Adi Kailash Darshan to Dharchula to Pithoragarh. 190 km. All in 4x4 Mahindra Bolero on BRO roads.

Yes. BRO has built and maintains motorable roads all the way to Jyolingkong (4,570m) and Nabidhang (4,246m). Only 4x4 high-clearance vehicles like Mahindra Boleros are allowed beyond Dharchula. Regular cars, taxis, and two-wheelers are NOT permitted. All vehicles display valid Vyas Valley permits at the Tawaghat ITBP checkpost.

Limited helicopter services from Naini Saini Airport Pithoragarh to Gunji are available on request for pilgrims with mobility limitations. This is a charter service (not scheduled) costing Rs.35,000-Rs.60,000 per person one-way. Onward travel from Gunji is still by 4x4. Contact us for helicopter booking coordination.

Dharchula: Good 4G (all operators). Gunji: BSNL/Jio weak 2G-4G (intermittent). Jyolingkong and Nabidhang: BSNL only, very intermittent. Most mountain roads: no signal. Rudraansh Yatra guides carry ITBP radio sets for emergency coordination beyond the mobile network zone.

Best time: May 15 to June 20 (pre-monsoon) and September 10 to October 20 (post-monsoon). May-June offers fresh snowscapes, wildflowers, and stable weather. September-October provides autumn clarity with snow-dusted peaks and fewer crowds. Monsoon (July 1 to August 31) is avoided due to landslide risk.

Season 2026: Opens May 15, 2026 | Closes November 15, 2026. Post-monsoon gap (July-August) sees partial closure for BRO repair work. Routes typically reopen September 1-15. Om Parvat Darshan season: May 20 to October 31. Book early for May and October as these slots fill up fast.

Dharchula (915m): 18-30C day, 12-18C night. Gunji (3,200m): 8-18C day, 0-8C night. Jyolingkong / Nabidhang (4,246-4,570m): 2-12C day, -5 to 2C night. September-October nights at Gunji and Jyolingkong can drop to -5C — proper warm layers are essential.

The natural OM formation on Om Parvat (peak elevation 5,590m / 18,340 ft, often surveyed up to 6,191m) is clearly visible on clear sunny mornings from the Nabidhang viewpoint (4,246m / 13,930 ft). Best visibility: 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The formation is permanent snow in rock contours that naturally shapes the Sanskrit syllable OM. Cloudy days reduce visibility. May-June and September-October have the highest percentage of clear-sky mornings.

Yes. Senior citizens up to 70-75 years can safely join if physically fit with a valid medical fitness certificate. The entire yatra is by 4x4 vehicle — no strenuous trekking required. Rudraansh Yatra provides: daily pulse-oximeter checks, portable oxygen in every vehicle, mandatory acclimatisation nights at Dharchula and Gunji, and 24/7 ITBP coordination. September-October is recommended for senior citizens (milder heat, fewer crowds).

No strict fitness requirement since the entire yatra is by vehicle. Pilgrims should be able to walk 100-300 metres on flat or slightly inclined terrain at altitudes up to 4,570m. Persons with severe heart disease, uncontrolled BP, severe asthma, or pregnancy should consult a doctor. A medical fitness certificate from a government doctor is mandatory for ILP processing.

AMS symptoms: persistent headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite — typically above 3,000m. Rudraansh Yatra protocol: (1) Mandatory acclimatisation night at Gunji (3,200m). (2) Daily SpO2 monitoring. (3) Portable oxygen for readings below 85%. (4) Immediate descent if symptoms worsen. (5) Evacuation via ITBP and SDRF for emergencies. Report symptoms to your guide immediately.

Absolutely. The route is under continuous ITBP supervision with military checkpoints at every major stop. Homestay families are vetted and hospitable. Rudraansh Yatra guides are local Kumaoni residents with deep community ties. Many solo women guests complete this yatra independently every season.

Yes, with proper precautions. Senior citizens with well-managed diabetes or high blood pressure can successfully complete the Adi Kailash Yatra. Carry regular medicines, monitor BP throughout, stay well-hydrated, and avoid sudden physical exertion. A medical fitness certificate from a government doctor is required before ILP issuance.

Clothing: Thermal inner layers, fleece jacket, windproof/waterproof outer jacket, warm cap, gloves, woollen socks (3-4 pairs), trekking shoes or ankle-support boots.
Accessories: UV-protection sunglasses, sunscreen SPF 50+, lip balm, LED headlamp, power bank (2x), water bottle (2L reusable).
Documents: Original Aadhaar, ILP (Rudraansh Yatra provides), PCC, fitness certificate.
Health: Personal prescription medicines (5 days extra), paracetamol, ORS sachets, Diamox if recommended.
Rudraansh Yatra provides oxygen cylinders, first aid, and pulse oximeters.

ATMs are available in Dharchula town (SBI, Bank of Baroda). Beyond Dharchula — no ATMs exist at Gunji, Nabi, or Jyolingkong. Carry Rs.3,000-Rs.5,000 per person in cash for personal expenses and tips beyond Dharchula. UPI payment is not available at homestays. All Rudraansh Yatra package payments should be completed before departure.

Photography is permitted at the Om Parvat viewpoint at Nabidhang and at the Adi Kailash temple complex at Jyolingkong for personal devotional purposes. Strictly prohibited: Photography of military installations (ITBP camps, Army positions, checkpoints) and Drones are completely banned in the entire Vyas Valley border zone without special MHA clearance. Always follow ITBP officer instructions at checkpoints.

Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash, 5,945m) is considered the earthly manifestation of Lord Shiva's sacred abode in the Kumaon Himalayas — with its own Gauri Kund (4,800m), Parvati Sarovar (4,500m), and temple-crowned base at Jyolingkong (4,570m).
