The Adi Kailash Yatra — also called Chhota Kailash Yatra — is one of the most spiritually powerful pilgrimages in the Indian Himalayas. Every year, thousands of devotees make their way to the remote Vyas Valley in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand to receive darshan of Adi Kailash (base camp at Jyolingkong, 4,570m; peak 5,945m) and the miraculous Om Parvat (viewed from Nabidhang viewpoint, 4,246m; peak 5,590m).
This guide covers everything you need to plan a successful Adi Kailash Yatra in 2026. Written by Rudraansh Yatra — a direct local ground operator based in Pithoragarh, operating this route since 2015.
What is Adi Kailash?
Adi Kailash (literally "first Kailash") is a sacred Himalayan peak in the Vyas Valley of Pithoragarh district, revered as the earthly replica of Mt. Kailash in Tibet — the abode of Lord Shiva. The sacred lake at its base, Parvati Sarovar (Gauri Kund), mirrors the holy Mansarovar.
The pilgrimage also includes darshan of Om Parvat, where the divine "OM" symbol appears naturally formed in snow on the mountain face — considered one of the most miraculous sights in the Himalayas. For pilgrims who cannot undertake the arduous Mt. Kailash Yatra in Tibet, Adi Kailash offers an equivalent spiritual experience entirely within India.
